Widespread rain and storms expected across Nepal today



KATHMANDU: Monsoon conditions continue to affect various parts of the country, bringing widespread rain and the possibility of severe weather in several provinces.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the weather is currently partly to generally cloudy in the hilly regions of Gandaki, Karnali, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim Provinces.

Light to moderate rain is occurring in some areas of these provinces, while Madhesh Province remains partly to generally clear.

This afternoon, most parts of the country are expected to remain partly to generally cloudy. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in hilly areas of the country, particularly in Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces, and at a few locations elsewhere.

There is also a chance of heavy to very heavy rain in one or two locations in the hilly regions of Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces.

Light to moderate rain or snowfall is expected in some high-hill and mountainous areas of all provinces. In addition, windstorms are likely in parts of the Terai region in Koshi and Madhesh Provinces.

Tonight, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy nationwide. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in hilly areas of Koshi Province and at scattered places across other provinces.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in isolated areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim Provinces.

Light to moderate rain or snowfall is also forecasted in high-hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi and Bagmati, and in a few locations elsewhere. Windstorms are again possible in parts of the Terai in Koshi and Madhesh Provinces.

The Division has warned that heavy to very heavy rain could lead to rising river levels, increasing the risk of flash floods, flooding, landslides, and soil erosion.

The public has been advised to take necessary precautions to minimize risks to health, agriculture, daily activities, and transport—both road and air.
