KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, has dismissed rumors of planned load shedding, assuring the public that power cuts will not return.
During an inspection of the Kalimati ‘No Light’ branch in Kuleshwor last evening, he urged citizens not to believe misinformation circulating in the market.
On the occasion, Minister Khadka gathered information about power supply issues, consumer complaints, and technical challenges faced in areas served by the ‘No Light’ branch.
He emphasized that the current electricity production in the country is sufficient to meet demand and reiterated that load shedding is not on the horizon.
“Some individuals or groups are deliberately spreading false information. I urge the public not to fall for such misleading rumors,” he said.
The Minister acknowledged that while the power system had more issues in previous years, the situation has significantly improved. He noted that occasional outages caused by weather conditions—such as strong winds or lightning—are being addressed promptly.
Earlier, Minister Khadka also made an unannounced visit to the Load Dispatch Center in Syuchatar, where he monitored the national power supply and reviewed technological infrastructure and workforce management.
During his inspection, he instructed employees of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to serve consumers with greater responsibility and accountability. He warned that false and unverified information only fuels unnecessary public confusion.
Khadka reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the power distribution system, ensuring uninterrupted supply, and enforcing robust complaint management mechanisms to prevent a return to load shedding.
He was accompanied by Energy Secretary Suresh Acharya, NEA Executive Director Hitendra Dev Shakya, and other technical staff during the inspection.
