Fire at Bheri Hospital medical store causes Rs 30 million in damages



NEPALGUNJ: A fire broke out at the medical store of Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj, Banke, on Saturday morning, causing extensive damage to medicines, equipment, and documents.

According to the hospital, the fire was triggered by a short circuit in a refrigerator inside the medical store. Dr. Nirajan Subedi, Chief Medical Superintendent of Bheri Hospital, said the fire destroyed medicines, laboratory equipment, and expensive vaccines, with preliminary estimates indicating losses exceeding Rs 30 million.

“It is estimated that more than Rs 30 million worth of damage may have been caused, as all types of medicines used in the hospital, equipment, and expensive vaccines used in the laboratory were destroyed,” said Dr. Subedi. “Furniture and documents in some rooms have also been destroyed in the fire.”

Dr. Subedi added that a detailed assessment of the damage is ongoing and a complete report is expected by Sunday.
