Police clash with demonstrators outside NEA office

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a group of independent youth who attempted to surround the central office of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) in Ratna Park, protesting against the government’s decision to dismiss Kulman Ghising as Managing Director.

The protest erupted after the cabinet meeting on Monday decided to remove Ghising from his position. His dismissal has triggered widespread demonstrations across the country, with his supporters taking to the streets since Tuesday.

Hitendra Dev Shakya, who has now been appointed as the new Managing Director of NEA, has officially assumed office. However, protests continue as Ghising’s supporters demand answers from the government, arguing that his leadership was instrumental in stabilizing Nepal’s electricity supply.

With tensions rising, authorities have yet to address the growing public outrage over the decision.
