National Assembly also disrupted over Kulman Ghising’s dismissal

KATHMANDU: The National Assembly meeting was disrupted on Wednesday as opposition parties staged a protest over the dismissal of Kulman Ghising, the former Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

As soon as the session began, opposition lawmakers stood up and objected, demanding an explanation from the government regarding Ghising’s removal. The protest intensified after Maoist lawmaker Gopi Bahadur Sarki Achhami was given the floor to speak.

Achhami condemned the government’s decision, saying that Ghising, a skilled official credited with ending Nepal’s long-standing load shedding crisis, was unjustly removed for political reasons.

He accused the ruling coalition of siding with forces resistant to change, punishing those who should have been rewarded.

“The Prime Minister must answer for this,” he said, vowing that the opposition would not allow the meeting to proceed without a government response.

Despite National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal’s appeal for order, lawmakers continued their protest, forcing a 15-minute adjournment of the session. The disruption reflects growing tensions over Ghising’s removal, which has sparked widespread criticism and opposition outrage.
