HoR meeting adjourned for 30 minutes as opp’n parties protest Kulman Ghising’s dismissal

KATHMANDU: The ongoing controversy regarding Kulman Ghising’s removal from his post as Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) took a dramatic turn today as it was raised in parliament.

Opposition parties, including the Maoist Center, voiced their strong objections during the House of Representatives meeting.

As soon as the session began, Maoist MP Shakti Basnet addressed the parliament, arguing that Kulman’s dismissal was unjust.

Following his remarks, opposition members, including Maoist Chairman Puhpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, stood up and protested during the session.

The protests erupted after the government removed Kulman from his position on Monday and appointed Hitendradev Shakya as his replacement.

This decision has sparked widespread opposition, with some political party-affiliated organizations staging street protests and even burning effigies of Energy Minister Deepak Khadka.

Before the House of Representatives meeting, opposition parties held a meeting where they decided to formally oppose Kulman’s dismissal in parliament.
