KATHMANDU: Mahashivaratri is being observed nationwide today with Hindu devotees offering prayers to Lord Shiva.
People are gathering at Shiva temples to perform special poojas in reverence to the deity.
Devotees began arriving at Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu early this morning.
In light of the occasion, all four entrances to the temple have been kept open since 3 am to accommodate the influx of worshippers.
Sadhus from across Nepal and India have also arrived at Pashupatinath Temple, where the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) provides them with money and alms.
On this auspicious day, which coincides with Krishna Chaturdashi, devotees are flocking to various “Shivalayas” (Shiva Temples) to participate in the celebrations.
Shiva worships are being conducted at several temples, including Haleshi and Devghat, to pay homage to Lord Shiva.
The PADT has made special arrangements to ensure that devotees can visit the Pashupatinath Temple with ease during this important religious observance.
