Govt facing pressure to meet revenue targets: Finance Minister

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has acknowledged that the government has not yet met its revenue target for the current fiscal year, despite some improvement in revenue collection compared to last year.

Speaking at a program organized by the Department of Customs to mark International Customs Day, Paudel urged customs and tax officials to work with greater efficiency, noting the pressure to meet the annual revenue target.

“Right now, we are under pressure to meet the revenue target. While there has been a slight increase compared to last year, it is still not satisfactory in relation to the target set for this year. We must work harder to meet the target,” said Finance Minister Paudel.

He further mentioned that the government has introduced new laws through an ordinance to improve public service delivery, boost private sector morale, and create a more investment-friendly environment. These steps have been welcomed by the private sector.

The Finance Minister emphasized that the government remains committed to driving economic development and prosperity.

“This is not the final step in addressing the challenges in our economy, production, and productivity. We will continue to take further measures.”

He added that the government has successfully alleviated the economic stagnation that existed at the time of its formation.

“Our focus is on turning despair into hope and injecting vitality into the economy. Let us all work together with this spirit,” he stated.

Paudel also stressed the importance of enhanced cooperation and coordination between customs offices and security agencies.

“Coordination between the security forces and customs administration is vital for achieving our revenue goals. The government will assess your performance based on results,” he added.
