Kathmandu Valley records slight rise in minimum temperature

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley woke up to a slightly warmer Thursday morning, with the initial minimum temperature measured 2 degrees Celsius higher than Wednesday.

Early readings from the Weather Forecasting Division show a rise in the valley’s lowest temperature, signaling a brief reprieve from the recent cold spell.

According to the Division, the Valley’s minimum temperature was 7.5 degrees Celsius at 5:45 am today, compared to 5.5 degrees Celsius at the same time on Wednesday.

However, temperatures tend to drop as the morning progresses. On Wednesday, the minimum temperature recorded at 8:45 am was 5.4 degrees Celsius. Today’s official minimum temperature will also be recorded at 8:45 am, and it is expected to be lower than the 5:45 am measurement.

Meteorologists explain that overnight cloud cover tends to keep morning temperatures higher, while clear skies generally result in a lower minimum.

The Division measures daily minimum and maximum temperatures across the country, including in Kathmandu. The minimum temperature is recorded at 8:45 am, while the maximum is measured at 5:45 pm. The lowest reading is considered the day’s minimum, and the highest reading is the day’s maximum.
