Festivals key to inclusive governance and national harmony: Vice President Yadav

KATHMANDU: Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav has said that festivals conveying the values of peace, love, compassion, and coexistence help strengthen humanity, tolerance, and social harmony.

He noted that these values are closely aligned with the principles of equality, religious freedom, and social justice enshrined in Nepal’s Constitution.

Extending heartfelt best wishes for happiness, peace, and prosperity to all Nepali sisters and brothers at home and abroad on the occasion of Christmas Day 2025, Vice President Yadav said Nepal is a multi-ethnic, multilingual, multi-religious, and multicultural country, where diverse religions, cultures, and traditions have enriched the national identity.

He added that such festivals reinforce national unity, social equality, and coexistence by promoting the spirit of “unity in diversity.”

The Vice President further stated that religious and cultural festivals provide a strong foundation for practicing inclusive governance within Nepal’s federal democratic republican system and inspire citizens to move toward lasting peace, good governance, and prosperity.

Observed every year on December 25 to mark the birth of Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity, Christmas holds deep religious, social, and cultural significance. Vice President Yadav noted that the festival strengthens bonds among families, friends, and communities through the exchange of greetings, gifts, and cultural programs.

He also highlighted its contribution to the national economy by promoting trade, tourism, and other economic activities, while fostering compassion and support for the poor, vulnerable, and marginalized sections of society.

The message also acknowledged that in recent years people of other faiths have increasingly joined in celebrating Christmas, helping to promote religious tolerance, mutual respect, and Nepal’s inclusive national identity. On the occasion, Vice President Yadav called on all citizens to renew their commitment to advancing social justice, inclusiveness, and equal opportunities.

He concluded by expressing hope that the Christmas festival would continue to inspire collective efforts toward building a peaceful, prosperous, and developed Nepal through mutual harmony, religious tolerance, social justice, and national unity.
