EC issues draft Election Code of Conduct–2082

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) of Nepal has released a draft of the Election Code of Conduct–2082 for public consultation and feedback. The draft has been issued in preparation for the upcoming election of members of the House of Representatives, scheduled to be held on March 5, 2026.

According to the Commission, the draft code aims to ensure elections are conducted in a free, fair, impartial, transparent, cost-effective, and fear-free environment. The draft has been issued for consultation and suggestions by exercising the authority granted under Section 22 of the Election Commission Act, 2073.

The proposed code consists of 10 chapters and five schedules. The Commission stated that once enforced, the new code will repeal the Election Code of Conduct–2079.

The draft includes provisions to make public the names of individuals or institutions found violating the code, including through electronic media and information technology platforms. It also mandates that political parties make their election manifestos public.
