KATHMANDU: As preparations near completion for delegate selection for the CPN-UML’s 11th General Convention, the party’s Organization Department has issued a five-point directive to ensure uniformity and discipline in the selection process.
According to Kashi Nath Adhikari, Standing Committee member and head of the Organization Department, the instructions were endorsed during a virtual meeting held on Monday evening. The department has directed all subordinate committees to strictly follow the latest circular issued by the Central Committee.
The first instruction requires every constituency to publish its final voter list before entering the election process. The finalized voter count must be immediately communicated to the central Organization Department.
The department has also called for last-minute efforts to reach consensus on delegate selection until the evening of November 28. If consensus is not possible, constituencies must proceed with elections on November 29. The directive clearly states that the delegate selection cannot be postponed under any circumstance.
Concerns had emerged over excessively high candidacy fees in some districts, prompting the department to intervene. It has instructed all committees to cap the candidate registration fee at a maximum of Rs 1,000.
The directive further instructs leaders assigned to various constituencies to travel to their respective areas on time and help facilitate the selection process.
UML will conduct nationwide delegate selection on November 29, ahead of its 11th General Convention scheduled to take place in Kathmandu from December 13 to 15. Around 2,200 delegates are expected to participate in the conclave.
