UML to advance both election preparation and parliament reinstatement agenda: Gyawali

NAWALPARASI: CPN-UML Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali has said that his party will move forward with both the preparation for elections and the agenda of reinstating the parliament.

Speaking at a party gathering organized in Sunwal on Saturday, Gyawali accused the government of failing to create an environment conducive for holding elections scheduled for March 5. He reiterated that the UML has not abandoned the agenda of reinstating parliament.

Gyawali argued that restoring parliament is necessary to address the demands raised by the Gen-Z youth movement. He also warned that the security situation remains challenging, with looted weapons still missing and over 5,000 inmates yet to be brought under control since the recent unrest.

“It is still possible to move ahead through understanding,” Gyawali said. “An impartial investigation into the incidents of September 8–9, dialogue with Gen-Z representatives, and a minimum consensus could pave the way for parliament reinstatement and elections through elected representatives.”

He further said that since the party’s general convention has already been scheduled, leadership-related matters will now be decided through that convention.
