Rukum West jeep accident update: identities of eight victims confirmed



RUKUM WEST: The death toll in the jeep accident at Lisne, Banfikot Rural Municipality-7 of Rukum West, has reached eight.

According to police, the incident occurred on Friday evening when a jeep (Ra 1 Ja 422) traveling from the district headquarters Khalanga to Syalkhadi of Aathbiskot Municipality-2 fell off the inner road section. Seven people died on the spot, while one more died during treatment at Sallé District Hospital.

The deceased have been identified as 30-year-old Kamala Wali, 16-year-old Tekjung Budha, 15-year-old Dilmaya Budha, 17-year-old Manika Wali, 18-year-old Sharmila BK, 22-year-old Gopal Wali, 15-year-old Kalpana Nepal, and 28-year-old Sabita BK, all residents of Aathbiskot Municipality, Rukum West, according to Police Inspector Hari Prasad Pun, the information officer at the District Police Office.

Ten others were injured in the incident. The injured include 17-year-old Sirjana Budha, 15-year-old Sapana Nepal, 18-year-old Juna Budha, 17-year-old Sangita Budha, and 19-year-old Shanti Budha of Aathbiskot-2; as well as 17-year-old Anjana Airi, 20-year-old Mahima Oli, 17-year-old Manisha Thapa, 15-year-old Sabita BK, and 34-year-old driver Topjung Budha.

Nine injured individuals are receiving treatment at Sallé District Hospital, while 18-year-old Juna Budha has been referred to Nepalgunj for further treatment.

Police said the jeep had plunged about 700 meters off the road. The accident is suspected to have occurred due to overloading and the narrow road condition.
