After electrification, electric mills now operating in Bhojpur villages

BHOJPUR: Life in rural areas of Bhojpur has significantly improved following the expansion of electricity. Locals who once spent nights in darkness now not only have light but are also using modern equipment to simplify their daily chores.

One such village benefiting from electrification is Baikunthe in Ram Prasad Rai Rural Municipality-6. The arrival of electricity has brought noticeable changes to the lives of residents in this remote area. Ward member Januka Suyal shared that access to electricity has made daily tasks easier, especially grinding.

“With the installation of electric mills in the villages, people no longer need to spend an entire day traveling elsewhere for grinding and milling,” she said.

At the local level, efforts are underway to promote entrepreneurship. Ward Chairman Ekraj Acharya informed that 16 modern electric mills have been distributed to address the long-standing problem of grinding.

“We have succeeded in providing electricity access to all parts of the ward. Our focus now is on making life easier through electricity use. Distributing electric mills to locals is part of this effort,” said Acharya.

He added that the initiative is also encouraging locals to start small businesses. Plans are underway to process and market indigenous crops by producing flour from millet, wheat, barley, and buckwheat.

This campaign, promoted under the slogan ‘Baikunthe production in Kathmandu’s kitchen,’ aims to bring local products to urban markets. “We emphasize both the production and protection of indigenous and cash crops. Electrification has made it easier to process and send these products to the city,” Acharya explained.

Ward member Jayendra Kumar Rai noted that the electricity expansion has not only improved access to information but also facilitated daily activities. He highlighted that the distribution of electric mills has particularly eased household chores for women and encouraged entrepreneurship.
