Cardamom exports up by 44 percent



JHAPA: Cardamom exports through the Mechi Customs Office rose by 43.90 percent in the first two months of the current fiscal year 2025/26, reaching Rs 859.61 million, according to official data.

Information Officer Ishwar Kumar Humagain said 522 metric tons of cardamom were exported during this period, compared to exports worth Rs 597.35 million in the same period of the previous fiscal year 2081/82.

In contrast, tea exports declined by 34 percent. Tea worth Rs 753.48 million was exported in the first two months of the current fiscal year, down from Rs 1.137 billion during the same period last year.

Other notable export trends include a 98.3 percent rise in churpi, 155.2 percent increase in cauliflower, broccoli, and cabbage, a 74 percent rise in veneer sheets, and a sharp 655.1 percent surge in lentil exports. However, exports of iron sheets, and ginger (down 41.8 percent) have declined.

Overall, goods worth Rs 3.637 billion were exported through Mechi Customs in the first two months of the fiscal year.
