64 UML offices, 158 properties damaged in Gen-Z protests

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has reported extensive damage to its infrastructure and members’ properties in the wake of the September 9 protests, with a preliminary assessment showing that 64 party offices—including the central office—were vandalized or set on fire.

According to UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, more than 158 houses and businesses belonging to party leaders and cadres were also targeted across the country.

“According to the initial report, 64 party offices nationwide, including the central office, were vandalized and set ablaze. In addition, over 158 homes and businesses of our leaders and workers were targeted,” Pokharel stated.

He noted that the party owns offices in more than 60 districts, many of which sustained serious damage. “The cleanup and repair work has already begun in most locations. Party members are actively engaged in restoring the damaged offices with a spirit of volunteerism, following what we believe to be politically motivated and mysterious acts of arson and vandalism carried out in the name of the movement,” he added.

Pokharel also emphasized that the entire party structure has been reactivated in defense of the nation, the constitution, the Federal Democratic Republic, the party, and its cause.
