Guterres slams global inaction as Gaza crisis deepens

NEW YORK: UN Secretary-General António Guterres has criticized the global community for its “lack of action” in addressing the humanitarian crisis facing Palestinians in Gaza.

According to Gaza’s health ministry, which is controlled by Hamas, nine more individuals have died from malnutrition in the past day, raising the total number of such deaths to 122.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) reports that its medical teams are encountering “severe and widespread malnutrition” and outlines the devastating effects this condition has on the human body.

Israel has announced plans to allow foreign governments to deliver aid to Gaza via airdrops in the coming days, although past efforts have encountered significant problems, according to BBC.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the country is “exploring alternative strategies” to secure the release of hostages. Meanwhile, a senior Hamas figure told the BBC that ceasefire negotiations have not broken down.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to hold discussions with German and French leaders, following French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent declaration supporting the recognition of a Palestinian state.
