2,337 electric vehicles imported via Birgunj checkpoint last fiscal year



BIRGUNJ: A total of 2,337 electric vehicles (EVs), both small and large, worth Rs 1.64 billion were imported through the Birgunj checkpoint in the last fiscal year.

The Birgunj Customs Office collected Rs 1.80 billion in revenue from EV imports alone during this period.

According to Deepak Lamichhane, Chief Customs Administrator at the Birgunj Customs Office, fuel-powered vehicles still outnumber EVs in terms of total imports via the checkpoint.

In the last fiscal year, 16 electric jeeps, cars, and vans worth Rs 126 million were imported, generating Rs 197.4 million in revenue. Additionally, 50 EVs (jeeps, cars, and vans) with a capacity of 51 to 100 kilowatts and worth Rs 134 million were imported.

A total of 36 EVs with a capacity of 101 to 200 kilowatts, valued at Rs 248 million, also entered through the same checkpoint.

Birgunj also saw the import of 1,821 electric motorcycles worth Rs 432 million, along with 16 EVs (jeeps, cars, and vans) with a capacity of 201 to 300 kilowatts, worth Rs 126 million.
