Former PM Madhav Kumar Nepal appears before Special Court
Former Prime Minister and Chairman of the Unified Socialist Madhav Kumar Nepal has appeared before the Special Court in connection with the Patanjali land case.
The court bench, comprising judges Tej Narayan Singh Rai, Ram Bahadur Thapa, and Bidur Koirala, is hearing statements related to the case.
Former Prime Minister Nepal had earlier submitted a petition requesting permission to appear before the court.
Prachanda raises alarm over bill tampering in parliament
Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, chair of Maoist Centre, has voiced serious concerns about alleged “manipulation and meddling” with bills that have already received unanimous approval from parliamentary committees.
These issues, he claims, are occurring when the bills move to the House of Representatives.
Dahal made these remarks on Wednesday during a meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee. He was participating in discussions about amendments to the Nepal Police Act.
Anti-corruption activist Nabaraj Bohara meets NC Leader Shekhar Koirala
Anti-corruption activist Nabaraj Bohara, who recently completed a 31-day trek on foot from Surkhet to Kathmandu, met with Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala to discuss his campaign for clean governance.
During the meeting, Dr. Koirala expressed his full support for Bohara’s ongoing campaign, stating that he stands firmly in favor of good governance and the “Campaign for Clean Politics.”
Bohara had earlier met with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar on Sunday.
Supreme Court orders not to suspend Ride Sharing regulations
The Supreme Court has asked the Gandaki Provincial Government not to suspend the enforcement of the ‘Ride Sharing’ regulations.
Responding to a writ petition filed against the provincial government’s decision to suspend the implementation of the Ride Sharing regulations, the court issued an order in the name of the provincial government to not implement its decision to suspend the regulations for a month.
The division bench of Supreme Court Justices Til Prasad Shrestha and Mahesh Sharma Poudel handed down the order on Tuesday. This has paved the way for the implementation of the Ride Sharing Regulations in the Province, Chief Attorney of the Gandaki Provincial Government, Chiranjivi Sharma said.
Israel killed at least 14 Iranian nuclear scientists, says report
Israel has reportedly assassinated at least 14 Iranian nuclear scientists during the recent 12-day conflict, according to the Associated Press (AP).
The victims include chemists, physicists, and engineers, targeted in what are believed to be highly coordinated attacks.
The revelation came from Joshua Zarka, Israel’s ambassador to France, who claimed that the killings dealt a significant blow to Iran’s ability to develop nuclear weapons. According to Zarka, the loss of these key personnel has made it “virtually impossible” for Iran to continue weapon development using its remaining nuclear infrastructure and materials.
Egg production declines, prices surge amid extreme heat
Rising temperatures and increased demand have driven up egg prices, while production has dropped significantly. Compared to previous months, average egg production has declined by about 25 percent.
Dr. Ananta Dahal, Associate Professor at the University of Agriculture and Forestry in Rampur, explained that the intense heat has caused chickens to eat less feed, resulting in lower egg output.
He noted that heat stress, compounded by high humidity during the rainy season, makes chickens more susceptible to diseases, further reducing productivity.
Displaced families of Koshi Tappu submit petition to Prime Minister for compensation
Representatives of families displaced by the expansion of the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve have submitted a petition to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, seeking land compensation.
The delegation, including 95-year-old Kamal Kumari Pokharel, informed the Prime Minister at his residence, Baluwatar, that their homes were acquired 48 years ago when the reserve was expanded. They recalled the state’s polite agreement to provide land in exchange.
In relation to this issue, a high-level commission led by Chempjong was formed by the Nepal government in February 2024 to resolve problems faced by displaced families. The commission recommended providing land compensation in Letang Municipality of Morang district to 75 families who were left out of previous arrangements.
Birgunj Customs Office collects Rs 73.18 billion in revenue from petroleum products
The Birgunj Customs Office has collected Rs 73.18 billion in revenue from the import of petroleum products during the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, making it the highest single source of income for the office.
According to Chief Customs Administrator Deepak Lamichhane, the office spent Rs 174 billion to import five types of petroleum products during the review period. Petroleum imports accounted for 46.43 percent of the total revenue generated from the import of the 20 major goods categories.
Lamichhane said that the import of petroleum products and vehicles remains the main basis for revenue at the Birgunj Customs Office. During the same period, revenue from the import of vehicles and their spare parts amounted to Rs 17.70 billion, contributing 11.23 percent to the total collections.
Five metropolises, except Kathmandu, present their budget
In accordance with constitutional provisions, the federal government has been presenting the national budget annually on Jestha 15.
Similarly, provincial governments are required to present their budgets on Asar 1, while local governments must do so by Asar 10, as mandated by the Local Government Operations Act and the Intergovernmental Financial Management Act.
Following this provision, most local governments presented their budgets for the upcoming fiscal year on Tuesday, with some having done so even ahead of the deadline. However, in certain local units, the process has been stalled—citing either internal disputes or technical reasons.
Two children drown in septic tank
Two children have drowned in the septic tank of a toilet in Binuwatol of Chandrapur Municipality-10.
Two-year-old Ranje Sah and two-year-old Khushbu Sah of the same locality drowned in the incident that took place last night, according to to Rajkumar Rai, Deputy Superintendent of Police of the Area Police Office Chandranigahapur.
They were playing at the house of local Hridaya Paswan when the incident took place.
Timely rainfall brings farmers to paddy fields
With the onset of monsoon rains in the first week of Asar, farmers in Sindhuli have begun paddy plantation in full swing.
In Jaymangal, located in Marin Rural Municipality, farmers are busy in the fields, making the most of the timely rainfall.
Despite being close to the Madan Bhandari Highway, farmers in the area continue to rely on traditional methods of cultivation. Oxen are still commonly used for plowing and planting, a practice that remains deeply rooted in the local agricultural culture.
Unified Socialist calls secretariat meeting for June 27
The CPN (Unified Socialist) has called a Secretariat meeting for June 27 to discuss a wide range of internal and national political issues.
The meeting will be held at the party’s central office in Aloknagar.
According to Damodar Aryal, deputy chief of the party’s central publicity department, the meeting will focus on the party’s official stance on the newly announced national budget for the upcoming fiscal year, as well as on political training for leaders and cadres, and the party’s role in the ongoing parliamentary session.
Long-delayed roadworks leave Kathmandu residents stranded in mud
Road construction delays in Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Wards 16 and 26 continue to disrupt daily life for residents, with incomplete works and poor road conditions creating serious public inconvenience.
In Ward 16, the road in front of Amrit School on Nirmal Lama Marg remains unfinished despite years of delay. Following public pressure, gravel work has only recently begun, but the road remains largely unusable.
Meanwhile, in Ward 26, drainage work on Mhepi Road began in Magh and was completed in Jestha, yet the remaining construction has stalled. The road is now muddy and difficult to navigate.
Fake exam taker arrested in Kathmandu
Police in Kathmandu have arrested an individual for impersonating a student during an examination.
Keshav Rokaya, 26, originally from Chandannath Municipality-8, Jumla, and currently residing in Dhumbarahi, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-4, was apprehended on charges of taking the third-semester MPA (Master of Public Administration) exam as a fake candidate.
Police were alerted that Keshav Rokaya was taking the exam on behalf of Dan Bahadur Rokaya at the Public Administration Campus, located in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-14. A team from the Kalimati Police Circle quickly responded and arrested him.
Gold prices down Rs 1,500
Gold prices have fallen again on Wednesday.
According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of gold fell by Rs 1,500 per tola on Wednesday.
The association said the price of gold is set at Rs 192,000 per tola.
