Minister Poudel gathers suggestions from Nepali health professionals in Thailand

KATHMANDU: Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Poudel has sought input from Nepali health professionals, policy experts, and medical students based in Thailand to explore how Nepal’s healthcare system can benefit from Thailand’s experience.

Minister Poudel, who is currently in Bangkok to attend the United Nations Ministerial Meeting on Population Policy, held discussions with members of the Nepali community during a program organized by the Nepali Embassy.

According to his personal secretariat, the minister collected feedback on Thailand’s healthcare system, medical education, and health insurance practices.

He expressed confidence that the perspectives of Nepalis familiar with both the Nepali and Thai systems would be especially valuable in shaping future reforms.

“We are working to enhance public health services by improving the use of existing resources. Your experience can be instrumental in this effort,” Minister Poudel said during the interaction.

Nepali Ambassador to Thailand, Dhan Prasad Oli, noted that Nepalis in Thailand are actively engaged in higher medical education, healthcare practice, business, and even health policy-making.

He emphasized that such exchange of knowledge and experience could open doors for greater collaboration between the two countries.

Participants in the program included developers of a health service provider app who expressed interest in expanding their services to Nepal. Health insurance professionals also briefed Minister Poudel on the Thai insurance model.

Minister Poudel will formally represent Nepal at the UN Ministerial Meeting during his visit.
