Country’s situation worsened after UML-NC alliance

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Acting President Dol Prasad Aryal has criticized the political alliance between the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, claiming that the country’s situation has deteriorated as a result.

Speaking at a session of the House of Representatives on Friday, Aryal argued that good governance and an end to corruption are impossible when these two major parties join forces.

“When these parties merge, the situation only worsens. It is impossible to expect good governance and an end to corruption,” he stated.

Targeting former King Gyanendra Shah, Aryal warned that any attempt to bypass the constitutional framework could push the country into conflict.

“Our constitution provides a legal path for both entry into and exit from power. Anyone can come and go through a referendum,” he said. “If someone tries to forcefully take a different route, we must all remain vigilant, as it could once again lead the country toward conflict.”

Aryal emphasized the need to remove barriers to national transformation. “The priority now is to eliminate obstacles to change and address systemic distortions. Reforms should begin with amending the constitution,” he asserted.

He also criticized the government for failing to engage the opposition in discussions regarding constitutional amendments.

Additionally, he accused the ruling coalition of mishandling key issues, including the appointment of the Nepal Rastra Bank governor, the ongoing teachers’ agitation, and the resignation of the Education Minister.

“The government has been unable to cover its failures on these matters,” Aryal remarked.
