Govt run by middlemen and vested interests: Barsaman Pun

KATHMANDU: Maoist Center General Secretary Barsaman Pun has alleged that the government is being run by middlemen and vested interests, “as evidenced by its recent actions”.

Speaking during a meeting of the House of Representatives on Friday, Pun claimed that the government’s behavior over the past ten months has confirmed its alignment with such groups.

“For ten months, this government has done nothing but protect middlemen and vested interests while targeting opposition leaders,” he said.

“The influence of interest groups in the appointment of officials in key regulatory bodies like the Securities Board of Nepal and the Insurance Authority—as well as the placement of their representatives in positions such as the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank—is as obvious as daylight.”

Pun also said that even ordinary citizens have begun to question the role of middlemen in the current administration.

He thanked Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa for acknowledging, albeit indirectly, that middlemen have reached as far as the Prime Minister’s inner circle.

Pun further criticized the government for failing to advance any of the constitutional amendments.
