President Paudel calls for greater public awareness on earthquake safety



KATHMANDU: On the tenth memorial of the devastating Gorkha Earthquake, President Ram Chandra Paudel has urged for increased public awareness and preparedness to reduce the risks of future quakes.

In a message issued Wednesday, President Paudel emphasized that while earthquakes cannot be prevented, the risks they pose can be significantly reduced through informed planning and safety measures.

He highlighted rapid urbanization, fragile topography, and poorly built infrastructure as major contributors to the heightened vulnerability to seismic disasters in Nepal.

Calling on all stakeholders, President Paudel stressed the need for widespread dissemination of effective safety practices and risk-reduction tools among the general public.

He also extended heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives in the 2015 earthquake and its aftershocks and expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts over the past decade.
