Resident doctors to halt services nationwide, except emergencies

KATHMANDU: Protesting resident doctors across the country will halt all medical services except emergency and intensive care services today, citing unmet demands and threats they have received.

The Nepal Medical Association (NMA) issued a statement urging all doctors to withdraw from non-essential services in solidarity with the protesting residents. The protest stems from the government’s failure to provide subsistence allowances and growing concerns over safety.

In Kathmandu, doctors gathered at Maitighar Mandala at 11 am and march toward the Ministry of Health to press their demands. Meanwhile, the NMA has directed doctors outside the valley to stage demonstrations by surrounding their respective District Administration Offices.

The NMA emphasized that the protest is a response to both administrative negligence and intimidation faced by medical professionals.
