Prachanda calls for dialogue to resolve scrap dealers’ protest

KATHMANDU: Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has stressed the need for mutual dialogue to resolve the ongoing protest by scrapyard dealers and laborers over garbage collection and business operations.

In a meeting with representatives of the Scrap Dealers’ Struggle Committee, Dahal underscored the importance of finding common ground to ensure a conducive business environment.

“It is necessary to address the concerns of waste traders through dialogue and create a supportive atmosphere for their work,” Dahal said. “The issue will not be resolved by causing hardship to the workers and entrepreneurs involved in garbage collection.”

He also assured the protesting scrap dealers that he would hold discussions with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) leadership to ensure proper management of the waste trade and work towards a positive resolution.

The Struggle Committee urged Dahal to intervene, stating that KMC’s actions had created obstacles for scrap traders, disrupting their livelihoods and leaving many displaced from their businesses.
