Madhesh Provincial Assembly meeting postponed indefinitely

JANAKPUR: The Madhesh Provincial Assembly meeting has been postponed indefinitely after discussions between the ruling party and the opposition failed to reach a resolution.

The meeting, initially scheduled for 11 am on Tuesday, was adjourned following disagreements over irregularities in conditional grants.

The opposition parties, including the Maoist Center, have been demanding an impartial investigation into alleged technical errors and irregularities in the allocation of conditional grants.

Bharat Prasad Sah, the Maoist parliamentary party leader, stated that discussions with the ruling party had remained inconclusive, insisting on an investigation committee. He accused the ruling coalition, particularly the Nepali Congress, of evading accountability on the matter.

Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development Saroj Kumar Yadav acknowledged the discussions but maintained that relevant ministers should first address the concerns before deciding on an investigation.

Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh echoed this stance, arguing that the government must be given the chance to respond to the allegations before forming an inquiry committee.

With neither side willing to back down, the assembly meeting was indefinitely postponed, leaving key issues such as conditional grants and violations of diplomatic etiquette unresolved.
