HETAUDA: Hetauda Cement Industry, which has been closed for an extended period, is set to resume production from the first week of April.

Acting General Manager of Hetauda Cement Industry, Engineer Nabin Kumar Karna, confirmed that preparations are underway to restart production after completing necessary machinery maintenance, securing required raw materials, and reaching an agreement with employees to resume work.

“It took some time to repair the machinery as it was old and damaged. The machines were installed when the industry was first established, and replacing them immediately was not possible due to financial constraints. However, we managed to get the existing machine repaired,” he explained.

According to Karna, cement production will resume with the repaired machinery, and there is enough stock of raw materials to operate the industry, with additional supplies on the way.

“Currently, we have about 100 tonnes of coal in stock, and more is expected to arrive starting tomorrow, so the raw material supply is not a major concern,” he added.

He also assured that the electricity issues the industry had been facing would be resolved. “Discussions have been held with Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), and they have committed to providing regular electricity supply,” Karna said.

The industry had halted cement production on October 1, 2024, to carry out essential repairs on various equipment. During the closure, employees have not received their salaries and allowances for the past three months.

With a production capacity of 16,000 sacks of cement per day, the industry has faced significant challenges due to financial difficulties and other issues.

Hetauda Cement Industry, established in 1977 at Lamsure, Hetauda, began production in 1987.
