MP Rekha Sharma criticizes PM Oli and former King Gyanendra

KATHMANDU:  CPN (Maoist Centre) lawmaker Rekha Sharma has accused the government of repeatedly undermining the parliament.

Speaking during the special session of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Sharma stated that ministers have been modifying bills passed by the parliament and issuing ordinances without withdrawing pending legislation, proving the government’s disregard for parliamentary authority.

She also criticized ruling party lawmakers for responding to MPs’ questions on behalf of the government, instead of ministers. Citing the principle of separation of powers, she urged the Speaker to intervene and ensure that parliamentary rights are upheld.

Sharma also expressed strong objections to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s recent remarks in Dang, where he reportedly made derogatory comments about her.

Oli had claimed that the people of Dang had made a mistake by electing her instead of CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel in the 2022 elections.

Additionally, Sharma took issue with former King Gyanendra Shah’s statement on Democracy Day, advising him to either form a political party and enter politics formally or stop making unnecessary remarks.

She also called on the government to update the parliament on Nepal’s status on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list and efforts to address money laundering concerns.
