No family should endure what we have endured, says Prakriti Lamsal’s father

Calls on PM Oli to ensure safety for Nepali students abroad

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli spoke with Sunil Lamsal, the father of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal, who was recently found dead in her hostel room at KIIT University in Odisha, India.

The conversation took place after UML leader Madhesh Basnet visited the grieving family at their home in Bhairahawa to express his condolences.

During the emotional conversation, Sunil Lamsal urged the Prime Minister to ensure that no other Nepali family faces such a tragedy in the future. He expressed his deep sorrow but emphasized the need for action to safeguard the lives of other Nepali students studying abroad.

“Now our incident has happened, right? The incident has already happened. There are all Nepali children there. We should not hear about such incidents in the coming days. Please take the initiative on your behalf,” he told Oli.

In response, Prime Minister Oli assured the family of the government’s commitment to seeking justice. He said, “We have taken an interest. We have taken interest diplomatically and through the government.”

Oli pledged to take the necessary diplomatic steps and provide support to bring the culprits to justice.

The Prime Minister also said the government is actively investigating the case and is in contact with Indian authorities to ensure a fair and thorough inquiry. He reiterated his commitment to safeguarding the well-being of Nepali students studying abroad.

Meanwhile, UML leader Madhesh Basnet, who met with the Lamsal family earlier, conveyed the party’s solidarity and expressed his heartfelt condolences. He assured the family of continued support from the party in their pursuit of justice.
