Koshi Province CM defends ordinance, criticizes media opposition

BIRATNAGAR: Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki has stated that opposing ordinances brought in line with constitutional and legal provisions holds no justification.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 9th session of Press Chautari Morang on Saturday, Chief Minister Karki emphasized the constitutional provision for issuing ordinances when the parliament is not in session. He argued that the ordinance introduced adheres to constitutional norms and criticized the growing trend of media and social media opposition.

Karki highlighted that the current alliance between political parties focuses on constitutional amendments, economic reforms, and ensuring good governance. He accused certain groups of misusing media platforms to discredit the alliance, particularly the agreement between the UML and the Nepali Congress.

During the program, Karki announced that the provincial government plans to pass a bill related to the Mass Media Foundation in the current session, aimed at safeguarding the rights and interests of journalists across the province.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Karki presented the Shaligram Manjandevi Dahal Memorial Journalism Award to journalist Mahendra Bista. The award, established by Press Chautari Morang, includes a cash prize of Rs 21,000.
