KATHMANDU: Around 58 percent of farmers across Nepal have been enlisted under the Farmer Registration Program as of mid-November, officials said.
According to the 2021 Agriculture Census, the country has approximately 4.13 million farmers. Sanjiv Pandit, officer at the Agriculture, Information and Training Centre under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, said over 2.38 million farmers have been registered so far.
Farmers are classified into four categories—livelihood, small-scale, medium-scale, and large-scale—based on their income and farm size. Identity cards will be issued to registered farmers, who will then receive grants, chemical fertilizers, seeds, and other services.
“The Program connects farmers to an electronic information system, making it easier to provide support and services,” Pandit said. Integrated data collected includes crop production, land area cultivated, and other relevant details.
The Centre has also been providing information and training to farmers, agricultural entrepreneurs, and technicians to strengthen agricultural capacity across the country.
