Dengue cases rise to 7,882 in Nepal, 55 new infections reported this week

KATHMANDU: A total of 55 new dengue infections have been reported across Nepal in the past week, taking the nationwide count to 7,882, according to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD).

EDCD data shows that out of 109 people tested for dengue this week, 55 were confirmed positive. Bagmati Province has recorded 2,025 cases, Gandaki 2,000, Lumbini 1,304, Koshi 1,008, Sudur Paschim 845, Karnali 524, and Madhesh 176.

While dengue was previously confined to the Terai region during the summer and monsoon, it has now been detected year-round, including in hilly areas. Doctors attribute the rise in infections to climate change, which has extended mosquito breeding periods, caused unusual temperature increases, and disrupted rainfall patterns.
