Lumbini Provincial Assembly winter session to begin today

LUMBINI: The Winter Session of the Lumbini Provincial Assembly is set to begin today. The first meeting of the Assembly’s seventh session will convene at 1 PM.

According to Provincial Assembly Secretary Durlav Kumar Punamagar, a tentative agenda has already been prepared. As per the agenda, the Speaker will table three letters received from the Office of the Provincial Chief. These include a notice convening the seventh session, a letter regarding the reorganization of the Council of Ministers, and a communication on bills passed and certified during the sixth session.

The agenda also includes Speaker Tul Bahadur Gharti presenting details on the attendance of Provincial Assembly members. Following this, members will deliver congratulatory remarks on behalf of their respective parties, Secretary Punamagar said.

Two amendment bills—the Bill to Amend the Act on the Operation of the District Assembly and District Coordination Committee, 2075 BS and the Bill to Amend the Act on the Facilities of Local Level Office Bearers and Members, 2076 BS—have been registered at the Provincial Assembly Secretariat for discussion during the Winter Session. The provincial cabinet has also approved the submission of additional bills to the Assembly.

Among these are the bill to establish and operate the Lumbini Pragya Pratishthan (Lumbini Academy), the bill related to the management and regulation of provincial pesticides, and the bill aimed at ensuring the rights of the Dalit community.

A cabinet meeting held earlier on Sunday endorsed several agendas to be presented during the session. It approved the submission of the provincial pesticides management and regulation bill, forwarded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Land Management and Cooperatives, as well as the Dalit rights bill sent by the Ministry of Social Development. The meeting also endorsed the Procedure for the Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Program, 2082.
