KATHMANDU: The Nepal national women’s football team is set to take on Iran in a friendly match on Friday evening at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong, India. The match will kick off at 6:15 PM (Nepal time).
This will be Nepal’s first international fixture since competing in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers held in Uzbekistan earlier this year.
Team captain Sabitra Bhandari, popularly known as Samba, said the team is aiming for a win while acknowledging Iran as a strong opponent. “Iran is a good team, and the match will be competitive. We will do our best to secure a victory,” Bhandari said ahead of the game.
Iran enters the match with momentum, having defeated India 3–0 in their last encounter on October 21.
After Friday’s clash, Nepal will play a friendly against India on October 27, followed by an unofficial match against the same side on October 30.
According to the latest FIFA rankings, India is ranked 63rd, Iran 70th, and Nepal 89th in the world.
