65 vehicles stolen in Gandaki Province, only 17 recovered



BAGLUNG: A total of 65 vehicles were reported stolen in Gandaki Province in the last fiscal year, but only 17 have been recovered so far.

According to police data, two four-wheelers and 63 two-wheelers were stolen during the period. Of these, one four-wheeler and 16 motorcycles have been found, while 48 vehicles remain missing.

Two vehicle theft complaints have been filed in the current fiscal year, but none of the stolen vehicles have been recovered yet. Most thefts reportedly occur at night or from residential parking areas.

On 11 Magh 2081 BS, a motorcycle belonging to Sujan Khatri of Kushma Municipality-5, Parbat, was stolen from Baglung Municipality-3, while another belonging to Sajan Acharya was stolen from the Baglung Kalika Temple premises. Both incidents were reported to the police, and CCTV footage was submitted, but the motorcycles have not been traced.

Kaski recorded the highest number of vehicle thefts in the province, followed by Nawalpur and Baglung. In Kaski alone, one four-wheeler and 41 two-wheelers were stolen last fiscal year. Police have recovered 15 vehicles, while 27 remain missing. In Nawalpur, 16 two-wheelers were reported stolen, none of which have been found.

Baglung recorded four cases—one four-wheeler and three two-wheelers—of which two have been recovered. Similarly, two motorcycles were reported stolen in Tanahun and one in Myagdi, all still untraced.

Superintendent of Police Tilak Bharati of the District Police Office, Baglung, said that although some stolen vehicles have been found in good condition, the culprits are yet to be identified. He added that police are conducting investigations with priority after receiving theft reports.
