KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has begun installing 62 high-mast lights at major intersections across the Valley.
The project, part of the long-delayed “Ujyalo Mahanagar” (Bright City) plan, is being implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 100 million. Work on the initiative had been stalled for the past three years due to various reasons.
So far, lights have been installed and are operational at 12 locations including Sohrakhutte Chowk and Durbar Marg. KMC has stated that all remaining lights will be functional before the Dashain festival.
In addition, a separate Rs 850 million project for the procurement and installation of streetlights is also underway. KMC expects the entire city to be fully illuminated within this fiscal year.
