Baburam Bhattarai resigns as chair of Naya Shakti Party



KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has stepped down as chairperson of Nepal Samajbadi Party (Naya Shakti).

According to party spokesperson Krishna Sharma, Bhattarai submitted his resignation proposal during the party’s special expanded central committee meeting held at Deepjyoti Banquet, Boudha, on Wednesday. The central committee approved his proposal.

“The central committee has accepted the resignation of Chair Bhattarai. The meeting has decided to form a General Convention Organizing Committee under the leadership of Vice-Chair Durga Sob,” Sharma told Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS).

As per the decision, Sob will serve as coordinator until the general convention, while General Secretary Sonam Singh Syangtang has been designated as member-secretary, and Krishna Sharma as party spokesperson.

Central member Tanka Dhungel informed that Naya Shakti plans to hold its special general convention by next Fagun (February–March).
