KATHMANDU: National Women Commission (NWC) member Krishna Kumari Paudel Khatiwada has declared herself acting chairperson of the constitutional body, citing the continued absence of Chair Kamala Parajuli.
Parajuli has been absent from office since September 21. In a statement issued on Wednesday, Paudel said that as the senior-most member, she is taking charge until Parajuli resumes her duties.
Under the National Women Commission Act, in the absence of the chair, the senior-most member is mandated to carry out the responsibilities of acting chair.
“If the chair’s position remains vacant, or if the chair is unable to perform duties due to foreign travel or more than seven days’ leave, the senior-most member shall serve as acting chairperson. Accordingly, I will discharge responsibilities as per the law until the chair returns,” she said in a notice.
