Govt to dissolve Land Problem Settlement Commission

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to dissolve the Land Problem Settlement Commission as part of its cost-cutting and fiscal prudence measures, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance.

The commission was revived in October 2024 under the KP Oli-led government to provide land to the landless, Dalits, squatters, and informal settlers.

Previous governments had also formed and restructured similar commissions to address land-related issues, but the problems of landlessness and unequal access remain largely unresolved.

The dissolution aims to streamline land administration and reduce unnecessary expenditure, though concerns remain about effective solutions for the affected communities.
