Gen-Z protests: Insurance claims reach Rs 22.25 billion

KATHMANDU: Insurance claims related to damages caused during the Gen Z movement have reached Rs 22.25 billion, according to the Nepal Insurance Authority. Bagmati Province recorded the highest number of claims, amounting to Rs 17.97 billion.

A total of 2,478 claims have been submitted across 18 insurance companies, including micro-insurance providers. The Authority noted that the number of claims may rise further, given the extensive damage to private property. Notably, all claims have been filed by private sector entities, as government-owned structures were not insured.

Among the insurers, Oriental Insurance Company received the largest volume of claims, totaling Rs 5.22 billion, followed closely by Siddhartha Insurance with Rs 5.08 billion in claims.

Of the total claims submitted, 1,778 were related to vehicle insurance, 538 to property insurance, 132 to engineering and contractor risks, 11 to transport insurance, and 19 to other categories.
