Nepal to celebrate 10th anniversary of Constitution

KATHMANDU: The government of Nepal has formed a main committee to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Constitution, with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli as its chair.

The Constitution, promulgated on September 20, 2015 (Aswin 3, 2072), established Nepal as a federal democratic republic.

This year, the anniversary will be marked with nationwide events from September 18–20 (Aswin 2–4), including programs at Nepalese embassies abroad and local celebrations across the country.

Activities include cultural performances, exhibitions, concerts, and public gatherings, with coverage through radio, television, print, and social media.

The main committee includes the Prime Minister, deputy prime ministers, ministers, state ministers, chief secretaries, security chiefs, local government leaders, and other senior officials. Specialized subcommittees will organize thematic programs highlighting the Constitution’s significance, historical context, and the rights and responsibilities it guarantees.

Speaking at the committee meeting, Prime Minister Oli emphasized linking celebrations to development, nationalism, modernization, women’s empowerment, inclusivity, public welfare, and cultural identity.

He urged that programs be organized at ward and school levels to engage citizens and promote awareness of the Constitution’s achievements.
