Prime Minister Oli meets Vietnamese Vice President Xuan

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli met with Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, who is currently on an official visit to Nepal. The meeting took place today at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar on Sunday.

Nepal’s trade deficit expands in first month of FY 2025/26

Nepal’s trade data for the first month of fiscal year 2025/26 reveals a widening trade deficit, which rose by around 2.55% compared to the same period last year. Imports surged by approximately 11.42%, reaching around Rs. 14.3 trillion, up from Rs. 12.8 trillion in the first month of the previous fiscal year. Major imported items included mineral fuels and oils, animal and vegetable fats, iron and steel, and vehicles—reflecting changes in both consumer demand and industrial needs.

Remittance inflow rises by Rs. 19.2 percent

Nepal recorded a significant increase in remittance inflows in the fiscal year 2024/25, with a 19.2% rise compared to the previous year, according to data released by Nepal Rastra Bank. Total remittances reached Rs. 1.723 trillion (Rs. 17 kharba 23 arba 27 crore). In the previous fiscal year, remittance inflows had grown by 16.5%. In Asar (mid-June to mid-July) this year, Nepal received Rs. 189.11 billion in remittances, compared to Rs. 117.78 billion during the same month in the previous fiscal year.

JSP to recall two ministers, name replacements

The Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) led by Ashok Rai, has decided to recall two of its ministers currently serving in the federal government and appoint new ones in their place. According to a party leader, Minister for Drinking Water Pradeep Yadav and Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi will be recalled. The party plans to send Birendra Mahato and Ranju Thakur as their replacements, respectively.

Nepal, Vietnam Vice Presidents meet to promote religious and cultural tourism

Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav and Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, who is on a three-day official visit to Nepal, held a delegation-level meeting in Kathmandu today. The two leaders discussed the religious and cultural affinities between Nepal and Vietnam and emphasized the immense potential for promoting religious and cultural tourism between the two countries.

Bipin Joshi’s family meets President Paudel

The mother and sister of Bipin Joshi, a Nepali national from Mahendranagar who was taken hostage by the Palestinian group Hamas, met with President Ram Chandra Paudel on Sunday. In coordination with the Nepali Embassy in Israel, Bipin’s mother Padma Joshi and sister Pushpa Joshi traveled to Israel, where they met with the President, Prime Minister, and ambassadors of various countries before returning to Nepal.

Muglin–Pokhara road upgrade deadline extended yet again

The deadline for the expansion of the Muglin–Pokhara road project (Eastern Sector) has been extended for the fourth time, according to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport. The extension applies to the section from Jamune to Ambukhaireni in Tanahun district. Engineer Bishnu Prasad Pandey of the Muglin–Pokhara Road Project (Eastern Section) stated that the new deadline has been pushed to October 11, 2025. The previous deadline, following the third extension, expired on July 13, 2025.

Drinking water testing and purification ongoing in Birgunj

Drinking water testing and purification efforts are ongoing in Birgunj Metropolitan City following confirmed cases of cholera. The Department of Drinking Water and Sewerage Management has mobilized a team equipped with mobile vehicles and necessary materials to carry out water testing and purification in affected areas.

Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration, Bhagwati Neupane, has pledged to carry out her responsibilities with honesty and dedication. Speaking at a reception organized by her party, the CPN (UML), in Dulegauda this morning, Minister Neupane expressed her commitment to fulfilling the duties entrusted to her under special circumstances with integrity.

Gold price up by Rs 2,300 per tola tola

The price of gold saw a sharp rise on Sunday. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold, Silver, and Jewellery Associations, gold prices increased by Rs 2,300 per tola. The price, which stood at Rs 195,200 per tola on Friday, climbed to Rs 197,500 per tola by Sunday.

Bridge construction stalled for five years

Construction of a motorable concrete bridge over the Brahmayani River in Jugal Rural Municipality, Sindhupalchowk, has remained stalled for the past five years. Surya JV Construction Company was awarded the contract to build the 63-meter-long bridge—connecting Wards 1 and 5 of the rural municipality—at a cost of Rs 80 million, with completion originally scheduled within two years. The foundation stone was laid by then-Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota.
