Flash floods likely in 16 districts, including Sindhupalchowk, today

KATHMANDU: The Flood Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has alerted the public to a heightened risk of flash floods in 16 districts today, including Sindhupalchowk.

Although major rivers remain below warning levels as of this morning, water levels are expected to rise throughout the day, especially in smaller rivers and tributaries.

As of this morning, major rivers such as the Koshi, Narayani, Bagmati, Karnali, and their tributaries — along with the Kankai, Kamala, East Rapti, West Rapti, and Babai — are flowing below alert levels. However, the Mahakali River is currently near the alert level and expected to rise in the afternoon.

The Division has also warned of a significant rise in small rivers flowing through Sindhupalchowk, Rasuwa, Dhading, Lamjung, and surrounding areas, posing a high risk of flash floods.

Additionally, rivers in Nuwakot, Kaski, Syangja, Parbat, Myagdi, Baglung, Mugu, Jumla, Surkhet, Dailekh, Baitadi, and Dadeldhura may also see a notable rise in water levels, indicating a moderate risk of flash floods.

Authorities have advised residents in all 16 districts to remain alert and take necessary precautions to avoid possible dangers.
