Scholarships distributed to 22 orphaned students in Bhojpur

BHOJPUR: Scholarships were distributed to 22 orphaned and extremely underprivileged students in Bhojpur Municipality on Saturday.

A total of Rs 90,000 collected from donors was used to provide school uniforms and educational materials.

Shrijana Rai, Minister of State at the Koshi Province Chief Minister’s Office, handed over the scholarship support to the selected students. The initiative was coordinated by Navodaya Sanstha Bhojpur.

According to Yadu Suwal, Secretary of the organization, students from grades 1 to 9 studying in nine different schools were chosen for the support.

The beneficiary schools included Vidyodaya Secondary School, Yashodhara Secondary School, Laxmi Secondary School, Siddheshwar Secondary School, Janakalyan Basic School, Jagadishwari Primary School, Panchakanya Primary School, Janasewa Primary School, and Panchakanya Basic School.

The scholarships were funded by various donors: Ishwor Shrestha and Sabitri Joshi, a Nepali couple residing in the US, contributed Rs 30,000; Sundar Mohan Pratishthan donated Rs 20,000; Madan Prasad Shrestha and Devi Shrestha contributed Rs 20,000; and Khadga Bahadur and Indra Kumari Shrestha donated Rs 20,000.

Minister Rai noted that supporting orphaned children with educational materials plays a significant role in continuing their studies. She emphasized the need to maintain proper records of such students so that provincial-level institutions dedicated to the welfare of orphans can be mobilized effectively for their care and education.

Khomraj Dhamala, principal of Vidyodaya Secondary School, stated that while the state is responsible for ensuring education for orphaned and disadvantaged children through residential schools, due to current limitations, support from donors remains essential. He stressed the importance of focusing attention on children who have lost parental care.
