Two die from excessive alcohol consumption in Jhapa

JHAPA: Two individuals have died in Jhapa District due to excessive alcohol consumption, according to the District Police Office.

One of the deceased, 60-year-old Chandra Shivakoti, was a resident of Kanakai Municipality-4. He was found unconscious on a roadside in Kanakai and later pronounced dead.

According to District Police spokesperson Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, Shivakoti had reportedly consumed a large amount of alcohol before his death.

The second victim, 65-year-old Dambar Bahadur Magar, was found dead in a forest area of Birtamod Municipality-6. Magar, originally from Sikkim, India, had been working at a local pig farm in the area. He too is believed to have consumed excessive alcohol prior to his death.

Local resident Saroj Lawati, who works at the farm, found Magar’s body while feeding the animals.

Police suspect that both individuals died as a result of heavy drinking during the night. “We are conducting further investigation into the incident,” said Information Officer Khadka.
