Trump announces Israel-Iran ceasefire

WASHINGTON DC: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that Israel and Iran have agreed to a “complete and total ceasefire,” which he says will take effect within the next few hours.

However, neither Iran nor Israel has officially confirmed that a ceasefire has been reached, international media reports said.

The announcement comes after Iran launched missiles at a U.S. airbase in Qatar, an action taken in response to U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities that occurred on Saturday.

Trump stated that there were no American or Qatari casualties from the Iranian attack, described Iran’s retaliation as “very weak,” and thanked Tehran for providing what he called “early notice” of the missile strike, according to BBC.

Qatar confirmed that all missiles aimed at the U.S.-run Al Udeid airbase were intercepted and condemned the attack as a “flagrant violation.”

Iran’s missile strike came two days after the United States carried out significant airstrikes on three nuclear facilities inside Iran.
