Cabinet meeting postponed amid transitional justice talks

KATHMANDU: The cabinet meeting originally scheduled for 5 pm today has been postponed to 6 pm, according to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.

The delay comes after top leaders of the three major parties—Prime Minister and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal—convened at Singha Durbar to discuss transitional justice issues.

Today’s cabinet meeting is a regular session, but it is expected that the ongoing discussions related to transitional justice may also be addressed.

The Prime Minister’s Secretariat has confirmed that Prime Minister Oli will participate in the cabinet meeting immediately following the conclusion of the leadership meeting.

The transitional justice talks come amid ongoing efforts to resolve long-standing issues related to accountability and justice for victims of Nepal’s decade-long civil conflict.
