Shangrila Timber Industry fire still not under control, 30 homes at immediate risk

KATHMANDU: A massive fire that broke out at the Shangrila Wood and Ply Industry in Khaira, Ghorahi Sub-metropolitan City-9, is still raging out of control, causing extensive damage worth millions of rupees.

The fire, which started at around 2 am last night, was reportedly triggered by an electrical short circuit.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Chakra Bahadur Shah of the District Police Office, firefighting efforts are ongoing, but the fire has yet to be contained.

Fire engines from Ghorahi, Tulsipur, Lamahi, Gadhwa, and Kapilvastu have been deployed to douse the flames, while a large number of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal Army personnel, and local residents are working tirelessly to control the blaze.

The inferno has already destroyed a significant amount of raw materials, wood, ply-making machines, and other equipment used in the plywood manufacturing process.

The industry, spread over an area of eight bighas, continues to burn as authorities struggle to bring the situation under control.

The fire also poses a serious threat to the surrounding community, with more than 30 nearby houses at risk. Authorities have evacuated residents to safer locations, and the process of removing belongings from the threatened houses is underway.

Efforts to contain the fire continue as emergency responders battle to prevent further damage and ensure the safety of local residents.
