KATHMANDU: The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has suspended seven additional programs in Nepal, including those still in the agreement process, the Ministry of Finance announced on Monday.
The suspended programs include initiatives in education, health, agriculture, and statistics, as well as projects related to biodiversity, provincial and local governance strengthening, and climate-resilient municipal services.
The ministry stated that these programs were affected by an executive order issued by US President Donald Trump on January 20, 2025, which halted funding for 90 days.
Among the affected programs, three were still in the design phase and had not yet reached the agreement stage. This follows previous US funding cuts to Nepal, including the suspension of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and programs related to fiscal federalism and biodiversity conservation.
USAID has been operating various programs in Nepal since 1951, but all of its projects are now reportedly suspended.
